For a lot of folks around the globe, golf is an activity done for relaxation, fun and friendly competition. Whatever aspect of golf appeals most to you, improving your performance on the course with a few well-chosen tips will only increase your enjoyment of the sport.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to walk, instead of renting a golf cart. This will be a big boost to your overall health due to the increased exercise you will receive. While you’re walking, you’ll also be keeping your muscles warmed up and limber.

Get advice from a professional if you want to buy clubs. They can help you find the club that best suits you and will know about the newest available clubs.

Don’t take golf too seriously. Mistakes do happen out on the course and you won’t hit a perfect shot every time, the key is to always keep smiling, which will help you relax.

Hold your club with a neutral grip. A grip that is overly tight will pull your shot rightwards. However, if you don’t hold the club tightly enough, you’ll hit the ball too far left. Let the direction you want your shot to go direct the grip you have on your golf club.

Line your feet up properly. This is important if you wish to have a better golf swing. Your feet should form a right angle with the intended direction of the shot. You can achieve this by placing the club directly against your toes, then aligning the club’s end so that it points in the direction of your drive.

A round of golf can take over four hours, so it is advisable you bring along a snack, preferably something that is high in protein, such as nuts. The sport of golf can be draining both mentally and physically. When you eat a good snack all of that protein can keep your body and mind energized and free from fatigue so that you can concentrate on your game.

When buying a golf club, you should get one that is custom-fitted for you. Every golfer is different in body structure, height and weight, and a club that will work for one doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for another. A club which perfectly fits your needs will lead to a perfect swing.

Do not assume a golfing stance that feels unnatural to you. One way to find a comfortable groove, is to practice different stances without using a club. Flex your knees, keep the waist slightly bent, and naturally keep your arms dropped. Clasp your hands together, then maintain your hold. That is all that goes into this common position and if it’s not a comfortable feeling for you, then you are over doing the position.

When you are squared into position to take a swing at the ball, try to give your hips a swing as you move, so that you are distributing your body weight from your back foot, onto your front foot. Your swing will be more powerful and the ball will go further.

Keep your head high, and regularly bolster your confidence by playing golf with players near or similar to your skill level. Try playing on courses that are designed for beginners. Playing difficult holes, or with golfers who are experts, will only end up making the game less fun.

The most important part of becoming a good golfer is continuing to learn how to improve your game. As you use these tips and your scores go up, you may even have the satisfaction of beating that person who you could never even compete with before. Apply what you learned and you can become very successful.
